Movie reviews are going to a major part of Sippy Cup Dad and Inside Out seems like the perfect movie to be our first review. I also believe in spoiler free reviews so these will be more about how I feel about movies rather then what they are about. Going into this movie I was beginning to feel a bit of Pixar fatigue after the last couple of movies (Cars 2, Monsters University, I enjoyed Brave) fell a little flat for me. I was happy to see Pixar come out with an original story and not another sequel. I’m happy to report that this is a great movie and is a return to form and what I expect when I go to see a Pixar film.
What you need to know, without spoiling anything, is the film is centered around a young girl named Riley and we see her life as she grows up through the eyes of her emotions which are personified as Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith, STL represent!), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Fear (Bill Hader).
This movie is very funny, hilarious even as each of these actors are known for their comedy and they bring it in this movie. It’s the kind of humor that make family movies entertaining for both children and adults. My son, Hayden was cracking up almost as much as me and my wife. It’s a perfect example of what Pixar does best which is be emotionally deep and have adult humor but at the same time appeal to kids of all ages.
I think it’s a forgone conclusion that this movie will win an Oscar for Best Animated Film. I’ve included the trailer below but skip and go see this movie if you haven’t already.
